Subject: [Q] Software to connect Linux and Windows PC?
This summer I'll set up am experimental WWW/Mosaic server at home.
The server will be running Linux, and the client MS Windows for
Workgroups 3.11. To connect the two machines I'm planning on
using thin Ethernet.
I was wondering if anyone could help me with choosing software to
connect these machines. The software doesn't necessarily have to run
under DOS -- Windows only will be just fine. However, I'd prefer the
software to be public domain or shareware, if possible. Of course,
reasonable, commercial packages are also of great interest.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions/recommendations.

Subject: Re: WinVN won't post articles
I've had a similar problem, expect I get no message at all, just a post
that disappears. Is WinVN supposed to tell you it sent the message?
Even when it's successful, I get nothing back. Success rate runs about
75%.

Subject: Re: HLLAPI-Winsock
HLLAPI is mostly a function of an emulation package. If you want to
use HLLAPI over TCP/IP you will need to get an emulator that supports
HLLAPI and winsock. I know that Attachmate Extra for Windows, Rumba
3270 for Windows, and IRMA WS for Windows povide this. I don't think
there is a direct HLLAPI Winsock interface since HLLAPI provides
functions to modify and retrieve information based on screen geometry.
All implementations I have seen so far, HLLAPI is a function of the emulator.

Subject: Cookie server documentation
I downloaded the CookSocker cookie server, but there's no documentation
with it, on-line or otherwise. Are the dox elsewhere?
How *do* you use it? I see the file format and all (that's rather obvious)
but how does a user on another system *get* a cookie?

"Cookie" service is a TCP listener on port 17. The user on the other
system simply has to "telnet" to port 17 on your computer (if you are
running a cookie server). They will be presented with a random
cookie, and the connection will be closed.
I imagine that the author, Alun Jones (alun@huey.wst.com), could probably
give you a much clearer picture of how it works.

Subject: NFS Server for winsock?
Hi Again!
An associate of mine requires a freeware/shareware/commercial NFS
daemon/server.
This is the scenario.
two machines hooked up together via ethernet, running IP.
One is a SCO Box. The other is a win 3.1 box with a PC-TCP's tcp/ip stack
with the latest winsock.dll.
My associate wants to mount the windows machines DOS drives on the SCO box
using NFS, and then be able to back them up on his tape drive.
Any ideas?
